Medal upgrades the order of the day for Team Ireland at European Championships

Team Ireland are preparing for Friday's busy day of action knowing that they've already created history, becoming the most successful women's team to represent the country in European Championship history.

Seven Irish boxers will enter the ring with a bronze medal already guaranteed, surpassing the previous record of three which was set in 2019.

After a rest day on Thursday, Mayo's Shannon Sweeney will begin Irish interest on Friday afternoon just after 1pm when she faces Bulgaria's Sevda Asenova in the minimum weight class.

Fifth on the card be the featherweight meeting of Belfast's Michaela Walsh and Italy's Irma Testa.

World champion Amy Broadhurst - from County Louth - will be eighth on the card when she takes on Croatia's Sara Beram in the welterweight semis, and that'll be followed shortly afterwards by the light middleweight meeting of Cork's Tina Desmond and Italy’s Melissa Gemini.

The evening session is due to start just after 4.30pm, with light flyweight Caitlin Fryers - another Belfast boxer - up against Azerbaijan’s Anakhanim Ismayilova.

Bout six of the evening sees Dublin's Olympic lightweight gold medalist Kellie Harrington face Kosovo’s Donjeta Sadiku.

While Roscommon's Aoife O’Rourke will round off the day when she meets Love Holgersson of Sweden in the middleweight semis.
