Meath lose key backroom figures

Colm O'Rourke will have to plan without two key members of his Meath backroom team for the 2024 season, with Paul Garrigan and Eugene Eivers departing the set-up.

Garrigan played a lead coaching role for Eamon Murray when the county won successive All-Ireland Senior Ladies Football Championships in 2021 and 2022 and helped the men to Tailteann Cup success last month.

However, he will remain in his role as head coach of the talent academy in the county.

Like Garrigan, Eivers was also another central cog in Meath ladies and the Tailteann Cup victory.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Lee from county champions Newcastle West will be appointed as Limerick manager at next month’s board meeting.

Lee’s brother Billy played a massive role in the progress of the county in recent seasons and now Jimmy will take the wheel with vast experience at club level, guiding Newcastle West to two county senior championships, and bringing them to the 2022 Munster final.

Jimmy was also previously involved in the county football management team alongside brother.

Fellow Munster counties Tipperary and Clare are still searching for new managers to replace David Power and Colm Collins respectively.

In Kildare, Glen Ryan is expected to remain in charge of the senior team, with new coaching voices likely to be added to his set-up.
