McIlroy holds early clubhouse lead at the Italian Open
Rory McIlroy carded an opening round of 67 for a share of the early clubhouse lead at the Italian Open.
Played at the Marco Simone GC, the venue for next year's Ryder Cup, McIlroy posted an eagle at the second, with birdies following at five, eight and nine to leave him out in 30 shots for the back nine. He wasn't as perfect on the way home following bogeys at 11 and 17, in between a birdie on 16.
McIlroy stands at four-under alongside Gavin Green from Malaysia and Spain's Adri Arnaus, who've also finished their rounds.
Jonathan Caldwell, Cormac Sharvin, Paul Dunne and Niall Kearney are the other Irish competing, with the latter carding a four-over 75.
