McGregor given suspended sentence for driving offences

Mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor has been convicted of road traffic offences and disqualified from driving for two years after what the judge described in court today as "an appalling series of dangerous driving incidents".

The 36-year-old, from The Paddocks, Castledillon, Straffan, Co Kildare, pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving and one count of careless driving at Blanchardstown District Court.

He was also fined €5,000 and given a five-month suspended prison sentence.

The court was told Mr McGregor broke a red light, sped in and out of traffic and almost had a collision with another motorist as he drove on Lucan road and merged with the M50.

The offences took place on 22 March 2022 as he was driving a Bentley convertible.

Mr McGregor was named by Forbes as the world's highest-paid sports star in 2021 when he earned over €165m.
