McBryde: End-game-management key to Leinster win

Leinster's game-management at the end of their BKT URC match against Munster was the most pleasing aspect of the victory, says Robin McBryde.

Leo Cullen's side edged a fierce battle in dreadful conditions at Thomond Park, with three Harry Byrne penalties getting Leinster over the line for a 9-3 success.

But the game was riddled with mistakes by both teams, who struggled to adapt to the conditions for long spells.

Jack Crowley's landed Munster's only score, a penalty, in the xx minute but despite having a number of chances to get another score, they couldn't convert the pressure, while Leinster played out the final stages deep in the hosts' territory.

"I really enjoyed it," scrum coach McBryde told RTÉ Sport.

"The conditions weren't favourable to running rugby but for the purists it wasn't a bad game because of the nature of the scoring.

"We really thought the way we managed the game, the way we closed out the game in particular [was pleasing].

"There were a few tricky moments but if you look at the last ten minutes where we really controlled it and made good decisions.

"Our execution could have been a little bit better. You could look at our decision-making [earlier in the game as an area for improvement].

"Our lineout defence [was good] and we scrummaged really well. Plenty of plus points.

"If the conditions are dictating how wide you can play and all that, there are other decisions that you can make, why are we looking to kick here or when we are kicking or where we are kicking to, the type of delivery from lineout."

Meanwhile, Leinster were able to report a clean bill of health after the match in Limerick with Harry Byrne and Luke McGrath coming through upon return from injury.
