Mayo-Laois delayed as protests continue across games

Saturday's All-Ireland Ladies SFC clash between Mayo and Laois was delayed as players continued their protest at what they claim are delays from the LGFA, Camogie Association and the GAA and to engage in discussions to develop a charter designed for inter-county players.

The scene was replicated in other games with players donning t-shirts reading '#UNITED FOR EQUALITY.'

Last month, inter-county camogie and women's football panels came together to say that the rest of the season would be played "under protest" with teams sitting down together on the pitch ahead of last week’s games in both codes.

In Saturday's game in Castlebar, live on TG4, the players wore t-shirts in the warm-up calling for equality.

After Amhrán na bhFiann was played, both teams returned to the dressing room for approximately five minutes with throw-in delayed as a result.

Last month, through the GPA, the two inter-county codes warned that they are no longer prepared to wait for a charter to be drawn up.

"We find ourselves in a situation we never wished to be in, echoing the experiences of our soccer and rugby counterparts in recent years," a statement read.

"Regrettably, we feel that our national governing bodies do not want to hear our real concerns, so we’re speaking directly to you.

"We will play the remainder of the 2023 championship under protest."
