‘Maybe he’s slacking’ – Pundit says Aston Villa man has fallen down pecking order

Kortney Hause has an uncertain future at Aston Villa, as he’s spent the season on the bench and appears to have fallen further down the pecking order since Calum Chambers joined from Arsenal in January. The 26-year-old has made only 9/28 appearances in all competitions this campaign, featuring only three times in the Premier League since October.

Chambers has started ahead of Hause in Villa’s last two Premier League games, so an exit might be on the cards in the coming months. Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Hause’s problems are self-inflicted, however, suggesting Steven Gerrard’s treatment of the 26-year-old might be because he’s ‘slacking’ in training.

He told Football Insider: “I was surprised (to see Chambers start) because Kortney Hause has filled in on the right side a few times for (Ezri) Konsa. He’s got more speed, he’s got more aggression and was given a new contract. I thought he might be third-choice but it looks like Chambers is third-choice. He did OK against Watford.

“I’m sure Gerrard will be happy to get Konsa back in there. His partnership with Mings is the best one he has. Maybe Kortney Hause is slacking on the training pitch to get in ahead of Chambers.” Hause has made a total of 55 appearances across the board since his 2019-move to Villa, scoring four goals.

He’s started only four league games this season and can’t be happy sitting on the bench most weeks. Chambers usurping him as Villa’s third-choice centre-back should be the final nail in the coffin, but time will tell what decision he makes at the end of the campaign.

Hause played in only seven league games last season due to injury, so first-team football has to be at the forefront of his thinking this summer.
