Maxi Lopez responds to Birmingham City takeover talk with Blackburn message

Former Barcelona forward Maxi Lopez has posted an update as Birmingham City move closer to being sold.

A consortium is understood to have entered exclusive discussions with the club’s current owners over a potential sale. It is believed that the deal will be in the region of £35m and will also see St. Andrew’s return under the club’s control.

Trillion Trophy Asia, via Birmingham Sports Holdings, took over Blues in October 2016 and have come under intense criticism from the fanbase. However, it is now thought that new owners could be in place at some point this month .

Following the news of talks being underway, ex-Barcelona player Maxi Lopez fuelled belief that a takeover could be imminent as he posted on social media from St. Andrew’s during the club’s game against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. The 38-year-old has been linked with a move to buy the club.

A UK-based group including ex-Gymshark director and Blues fan Paul Richardson and businessman Christian Codoma are also said to be keen on taking over the club. If successful, it is believed that the ownership group will make funds available and also prioritise the overdue repairs at St. Andrew’s.

BirminghamLive has reported that Football League approval will be requested over the next two weeks and is expected to be granted, with financier Keith Harris acting as an adviser in the sale.
