Max Verstappen makes Red Bull prediction for Saudi Arabian GP

Max Verstappen has revealed he actually expected more from the Red Bull car last weekend despite its overall strong showing and that the team will look to go better this time around at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

The Dutchman was looking to kick-off his title defence in style last weekend at the Bahrain Grand Prix, and things appeared to be getting off to a decent enough start.

A strong qualifying had him in second place for the start of the race, and he battled with Charles Leclerc during the Grand Prix for the lead, though it ultimately looked as though he would have to settle for P2.

Of course, things took a sour turn in the final stages as a retirement hit him, and then team-mate Sergio Perez, but overall the Red Bull did look strong and the team is confident that last weekend’s fuel pump issue will not be repeated this weekend.

That all said, Verstappen has revealed he actually felt as though the car could have been stronger than it looked, and he thinks that they have found reasons for that, meaning they should go even better in Saudi.

He said in the drivers’ press conference speaking to Tom Clarkson:

“[There’s] still a lot of things we learned [despite Bahrain retirement,] we more or less completed the whole race and there was a lot of information learned.

“I expected more [from the car] but we have our reasons for that and we’ll try to do better here.”

Of course, the retirement was far from part of the Red Bull plan but overall they were looking strong across the race weekend and so to hear that Verstappen felt there were several areas it could improve may be daunting for the rest of the field.
