Max Verstappen could break big Schumacher and Hamilton F1 records in 2022

Max Verstappen is a two-time Formula 1 world champion after sealing the 2022 title at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Red Bull star is fast writing himself into the history books as one of the great drivers in the sport, with him now joint-level with Fernando Alonso on 32 Grand Prix victories and, indeed, two world championships.

It’s hard to see Verstappen stopping on those figures, too, with him currently in possession of the best car on the grid alongside being one of the most talented drivers of his generation.

This year he has been supreme, then, and thoroughly deserves the championship but, with four Grand Prix weekends to go this season, there are still records that he can break before 2022 ends, and that gives him plenty more motivation and incentive to keep the hammer down before the chequered flag in Abu Dhabi.

Here, we take a look at what else he can achieve before F1 shuts down for another winter at the end of November…

The record for most wins in a single season of Formula 1 stands at 13, with Michael Schumacher setting the benchmark in 2004 and Sebastian Vettel matching it in 2013.

There are four Grands Prix left to go and it is therefore more than possible we could be seeing Max break this record and set a new one by a decent margin as well.

Verstappen already holds this record of most podium finishes in a year with him racking up 18 top 3s in 2021 on his way to his first world title.

He can equal that record this season if he finishes on the podium at the remaining four races, with him showing phenomenal consistency over the last couple of campaigns.
