Max Johnston on Sheffield United and Luton radar as Motherwell starlet catches eye of Championship duo

Luton Town and Sheffield United are both keeping close tabs on Motherwell youngster Max Johnston.

The Championship pair have had the talented 18-year-old watched regularly in recent weeks.

The Scotland under-19 cap has impressed on loan at Queen of the South and has played a major part in helping lift them off the foot of the Scottish Championship.

His form has seen him twice named in the Scottish Professional Football League’s team of the week and he has also caught the eye of Luton and Sheffield United.

Luton have already raided Motherwell successfully when they signed Allan Campbell last summer.

Former Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom is also in charge at Sheffield United and also keeps a close eye on things north of the border.

It would take a significant six-figure deal for Motherwell to sell one of their young prized assets, who still has another year of his contract beyond this one.

The teenager has already made his Motherwell debut and Steelmen boss Graham Alexander plans to give him his first-team chance next season,

Johnston, who is the son of former Rangers, Hearts and Scotland star Allan, has come through the ranks as a defender but has also played in midfield for the Doonhamers.
