Bevis Mugabi wanted to repay Motherwell faith with new contract as defender thanks Graham Alexander

Bevis Mugabi has revealed he signed a new Motherwell contract because he felt he owed them a debt for sticking by him.

The Uganda international penned a new three year contract at Fir Park last year.

The 26-year-old admitted he wanted to show the same loyalty as the Steelmen showed him when they first signed him from Yeovil Town, when he wasn’t in the best of form back in 2019.

Mugabi, who claims his toughest opponent has been Senegal’s Sadio Mane, said: “I decided to stay with the club because of the loyalty they showed me when I first came to Scotland.

“First and foremost, they believed in my ability even when I wasn’t playing well and that is the reason why I probably decided to stay and develop further as a player and a person.

“But most importantly it was about playing games consistently.

“I believe I made the right decision to stay at the club.”

Motherwell have struggled for form this year but can still salvage a top six place.

They face a vital home clash with St Mirren at the weekend.

A determined Mugabi, speaking on OfficialFUFA.com, admitted: “My main focus is to perform well for the club and play consistently well for my manager, teammates and finish in a better position on the table.

“All I can do is to thank God for putting me in this position and allowing me to keep on working and progressing as a player.

“I feel I have done well this season with my performances and I want to keep on learning as it never stops but hopefully keep on playing well and see what the future has in store for me.”
