Juventus manager Massimilano Allegri has declared that Paulo Dybala still has "lots to give" after being linked with a transfer to Manchester United and Arsenal this summer.
Allegri suggested that the 28-year-old's decline has been due to believing in his own hype, but the Italian maintains that he is a "wonderful player" capable of "extraordinary" things. Dybala is on the verge of leaving Turin after it was announced that he would not be signing a new contract with the Serie A giants, having not contributed to more than 20 goals in a season since 2017-18.
Now Allegri, who coached the Argentina international for six of his eight seasons at the Allianz Stadium, has hinted that talk of him being the 'new Lionel Messi' ultimately proved to be a detrimental piece of praise. "Paulo needs to go back to being himself," the Bianconeri boss told DAZN.
"There was a time where he got all carried out by those who labelled him as 'the new Messi'. A player can't go around trying to play, to think or to be like someone else. He still has lots to give because he has an extraordinary technical ability, he is a wonderful player."
