Mauricio Pochettino quizzed on Manchester United managerial interest

Mauricio Pochettino insists he is still '200%' focused on his current job at Paris Saint-Germain amid continued interest from Manchester United in him becoming their next permanent manager.

United are determined to hire their next permanent manager before the end of the season and Pochettino is believed to be the most popular pick among the players.

There is also confidence from within the club that they could lure the Argentine to Old Trafford due to his long-standing interest in managing United.

The former Tottenham manager was prepared to join United mid-season following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and his position at the Ligue 1 champions could become untenable if they are eliminated by Real Madrid in the Champions League round-of-16.

Ahead of the European tie, Pochettino was quizzed on United's interest and the possibility of former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane replacing him in the French capital.

“I don’t know, it’s not up to me to decide," he told Cadena Ser. "Zidane is a great coach, he already showed it at Real Madrid. He can train anywhere in the world. In addition to this, he’s French. That is one more question for the sporting director or the president.

When asked if he had any interest in possibly even managing Real Madrid in the future, he added: “I go step by step, like Cholo Simeone (laughs). I think you have to enjoy the moments. We cannot be thinking about what is going to come.

“We have to be concentrated and focused on what we have now and football will have whatever it wants with us later. We are responsible for doing our best and giving 100% for the club we work for. We are 200% focused on PSG and on giving this club the happiness they expect from us.”
