Mauricio Pochettino has already dropped clue on Man United appointment with Tottenham decision

Former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino continues to be strongly linked with a move to Manchester United.

The Argentine tactician is reportedly in the running for the Old Trafford role with current boss Ralf Rangnick set to step into a backroom position come the end of the season.

Reports recently have suggested that an agreement between all parties is edging close, with Pochettino expected to quit his current position at Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season to take the reins with the Red Devils.

Despite that, some have suggested that the ex-Spurs man should make the switch immediately amid United’s shock FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship side Middlesbrough.

However, taking a look back at Pochettino’s career thus far - and how he has left jobs in the past - that appears to be an unlikely eventuality.

Having begun his career with Spanish side Espanyol, he lasted three seasons at the Estadi Cornellà-El Prat but saw his contract terminated in November 2012 after a poor start to the season.

It only took a few months for the former Argentina international to find his next role - this time with Premier League side Southampton.

He was in charge at St Mary’s for a season-and-a-half, leading the south coast club to 14th and 8th placed finishes - results that saw him attract the attention of Tottenham Hotspur.

Pochettino officially made the switch to north London in May 2014 - after the season had finished - allowing Southampton plenty of time to find his successor.

Of course, he was hugely successful as Spurs boss having led the club to the Champions League final, two Carabao Cup finals and four consecutive top-four finishes in the Premier League.
