Journalist drops intriguing Manchester United claim involving Pochettino and Kane

Journalist Dean Jones believes the possibility of signing Harry Kane would be discussed if Mauricio Pochettino was interviewed to become Manchester United’s next manager.

The Red Devils are expected to appoint a new permanent boss in the summer when current interim manager Ralf Rangnick moves to a consultancy role within the club’s hierarchy.

Pochettino has long been linked with the job at Old Trafford following five successful years at Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

According to ESPN, the 49-year-old tactician was the ‘leading candidate’ to replace Jose Mourinho back in 2018 prior to Solskjaer being appointed on a full-time basis after impressing during an initial spell as interim boss.

The same outlet also claim that Pochettino was the favourite to then succeed the Norwegian after he was also dismissed earlier this season.

However, Pochettino ended up staying at current club Paris Saint-Germain, yet the high-pressure nature of the job in the French capital means he’s unlikely to remain there for long.

As a result, speculation over the South American’s future has continued to mount, with the Manchester Evening News claiming there is a ‘confidence’ within United that they can lure him to the club.

And Jones reckons Pochettino is likely to be quizzed over the potential signing of Kane should he finally take his place in the Red Devils hot seat.

Kane established himself as one of football’s leading marksmen under the tutelage of Pochettino, bagging 169 goals and providing 30 assists in 242 appearances throughout their time together at Spurs.
