Matthias Jaissle heading to Newcastle in Premier League, say reports
DUBAI: Following the departure of Eddie Howe as Newcastle United’s manager, online reports are claiming that he could be replaced at the English Premier League club by Al-Ahli’s German coach Matthias Jaissle.
Jaissle has led the Jeddah club to back-to-back AFC Champions League Elite titles in the last two seasons and is a hugely popular figure with Al-Ahli’s supporters. However, he has been unable to reach agreement with the club regarding a contract extension, prompting reports that he is on the brink of leaving and on his way to Newcastle.
As of now, Jaissle officially remains Al-Ahli’s manager, and has been undertaking pre-season training with his players, but reports in the British media claim he has been in advanced talks to take over at St. James’ Park.
Howe is leaving Newcastle after five years at the helm and having brought the club their first trophy in 56 years. He was Newcastle’s first and to date only managerial appointment to be enacted following the Saudi-backed takeover in October 2021.
