Matt Taylor on Exeter City's League One fixture list

Exeter City manager Matt Taylor joked that the Grecians need as many points on the board as possible by March as yesterday’s fixture release gave them a mouthwatering but challenging end to the 2022/23 League One season.

The promoted Grecians will start the new campaign on Saturday, July 30 with a trip to Lincoln City before bringing the curtain down at home to Morecambe on May 6. But prior to that clash with Derek Adams’ side, Exeter face six games against some of the biggest teams in the division.

“It’s always nice to finish at home, but the games leading up to that are not so nice! I think it starts at Fleetwood and then we have Bolton, Peterborough, Plymouth, Derby, Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich, so we need to make sure we have enough points by March as we possibly can!,” Taylor joked.

“It’s an interesting end to the season, but that’s what we want. We want these games, we want to welcome these opposition to the Park and travel to these fantastic stadiums, play in front of bigger crowds and see how these players conduct themselves, perform and adapt to a different level of football.

“The players have reaped the rewards of this fixture list, but they can’t be daunted by it. They have to understand it’s going to be difficult at times, but we have to find a way of being successful. I think home form is going to be so, so important and regardless of the size of club coming down to the Park, we have to try and dictate as much as we can and the fans will have a big part to play in that.”
