Matt Targett's fresh take on whether he will turn move to Newcastle United into permanent deal

Matt Targett admits that he'd never been left to feel as wanted and welcome at any of his professional clubs after Newcastle United supporters serenaded him during the 2-0 win over Arsenal.

The on loan Aston Villa left-back is wanted by Eddie Howe this summer and there is a £15million option in his temporary deal from the Villa Park side to make the move permanent. But the move will now boil down to both personal terms and the player's preference on a new club this summer - something that is yet to be decided.

In new quotes from Targett he said: "We'll see. It's up to the club, the owners have got so much money and I'm sure they could go get anyone they want.

"But it's a very exciting project here and if I'm here next season then brilliant but if I'm not then I'll be looking from afar and hoping the club does well."

When asked about the ovation he received from Newcastle fans, with Targett even getting a selfie with Ant and Dec to continue his magical Geordie journey, Targett said: "Nah, I've never had anything like that, it was incredible. The fans have been special and they've made me feel welcome and I've loved every minute of it.

"The fans have been incredible since I've been here. The support I've had has been incredible and I can't thank them enough because they've made my time here really special. It's been brilliant.

"It's special. The fans, it feels like they're on the pitch with you and the noise unsettled a good team like Arsenal and gives so much confidence to the players. It's the best atmosphere that I've played in."
