Matt Targett proved right over 'difficult' Aston Villa decision amid fresh Newcastle United plea

Matt Targett continues to be praised for his performances for Newcastle United after his latest message to Magpies fans ended with them pleading for him to secure a permanent move.

Targett helped Newcastle to a 2-0 win at Brentford at the weekend as the Magpies continue their excellent form under Eddie Howe who has been thrilled with the Villa loanee's performances.

The left-back took to Twitter after the Magpies' victory with the message "away day wins" although they are still in a precarious position in the Premier League.

The response from Newcastle fans was emphatic as they continued to lavish praise on Targett for his performances and now want him to sign in the summer.

Targett explained his reasons for leaving Villa were partly a result of the club's decision to sign Lucas Digne in the January window from Everton for a fee in excess of £20m and the fact he didn't want to sit on the bench.

And it has proven to be the right move as he has become a regular fixture in the Newcastle side who stand a good chance of beating the drop after a heavy spending spree in January.
