Matt Ritchie believes Newcastle United can become the biggest club in England amid Howe praise

Matt Ritchie believes the "sky's the limit" for Newcastle United after the PIF takeover at St. James' Park. The Magpies became the richest club in world football and the new owners outlined their ambition to take the club back into Europe and challenge for the Premier League title.

The Magpies midfielder claims the club can become one of the "biggest clubs in England again" but says expectations need to be managed. Ritchie relayed the message from Eddie Howe, to not put limits on themselves.

Newcastle mathematically secured their place in the Premier League with two games to spare, an incredible achievement for a side who had not won a game in their opening 14 fixtures. There's plenty of hope among supporters ahead of the summer transfer window and the Magpies new found wealth opens up new avenues for signings.

Speaking to BoyleSports EPL, Ritchie said: "Who knows. The sky's the limit, the manager talks about that a lot, don't ever put limits on yourselves or collectively so that's a huge message from him.

"I think we have to be very aware that we're in the best league in the world and there's many teams wanting to achieve what we're trying to achieve so it'll take time - we have have to manage that carefully because as all football fans, along with the media, they get carried away so the expectation needs to be managed. Certainly in time, this club has the potential to be one of the biggest clubs in England again."
