Matt Peet discusses coaches meeting with RFL disciplinary and team news ahead of Castleford clash

Matt Peet admits he is hoping to gain 'clarity' about rugby league's disciplinary process from the meeting between Super League coaches and the Rugby Football League on Wednesday, saying the margin for error in tackling techniques within the sport at present is 'non-existent'.

Peet conceded he does have sympathy with the governing body ahead of a showdown between the sport's top coaches and the RFL, in which disciplinary issues and the swathe of suspensions behind handed out across the game are at the very top of the agenda.

But he admitted he is hoping to discover more about the processes behind the disciplinary system so he can deliver a clearer message to his players. "Just clarity," he said when asked what he hopes comes from the meeting.

"Once everyone has become clear on the actions we can work with players but as long as we know we're consistently able to work within the parameters set of us. I won't demand anything, it's important we listen and are open with our opinions.

"But the officials have got a tough balancing act, between getting the balance between the game people want to see and protecting the players' long-term health, which has to be the priority. We'll work hard on our technique and work with the referees, but the type of tackle when there's no malice.. there's got to be a realistic expectation of the players and the margin for error is non-existent at the moment. We pride ourselves on our discipline."
