Matt O'Riley suffers brutal Denmark snub but Celtic star told Euro 2024 dream ISN'T over

Matt O'Riley has been told his dream of playing for Denmark at Euro 2024 is very much ON - despite being snubbed from their most recent squad.

The Celtic playmaker isn't in the squad for warm up friendlies with Switzerland and Faroe Islands this month and still has just the one senior cap to his name despite a thoroughly impressive season at Parkhead. Kasper Hjulmand is spoiled for choice in midfield and the 26-man pool for their upcoming warm-ups hasn't featured O'Riley, with Christian Eriksen returning in his place from the November games.

However the Danes face Sweden and Norway in June in a double-header that will fine tune the squad for the finals, which kicks off for Denmark against Slovenia in Stuttgart on July 16. And he's put O'Riley on notice to keep performing for Brendan Rodgers - because his dream of playing for his country in Germany is far from over.

He said: “It is not impossible to make it to the Euros, even if you are not in the squad this time. There are talented players who have not been selected this time, but who have the opportunity to come to Germany.

“There is also the possibility that I can take players to the Euros that I have never selected before, even if they are not with it this time. I have a few things in mind. It was a close selection.”
