Matt O'Riley handed cryptic Celtic transfer hint by Denmark boss as he dishes out brutal Scottish football ranking

Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand has taken a swipe at Scottish football as he discussed the inclusion of Matt O'Riley in his squad for Euro 2024.

The Danes have yet to announce the 26-man list that they will take to Germany and the Celtic star will be hopeful of making the cut having been included in recent squads - and after claiming the Premiership title and Scottish Cup with the Hoops. The 23-year-old also swept the Celtic player of the year awards amid rising speculation that he could leave Parkhead for a bumper fee this summer with Brighton and Newcastle United being linked - while Spanish giants Atletico Madrid could return after a January swoop was knocked back.

Boss Hjulmand has hinted would be all too happy to see O'Riley wave goodbye to the Premiership this season as he took a pot shot at the quality of the top flight - admitting it had played into his thinking when selecting the squad for the Euros. Tipsbladet put it to the boss that he may be considering a shake-up of his midfield engine room.

It was noted that Tottenham's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Manchester United misfit Christian Eriksen had not been playing in the English Premier League. He was quizzed about players like O'Riley who have been "shining at club level."

Hjulmand put the quality of the Premiership BELOW the Danish Superliga as he responded: "You have to put it into the context of how the Scottish league is in relation to the Superliga, the Bundesliga or Spain. We are fully aware of that. There are constant considerations"
