Matildas v Indonesia live: Australia begins Asian Cup title charge in Mumbai

It's been twelve years since the Matildas last won the Asian Cup, and despite becoming one of the best and most iconic teams in the world since then, their trophy cabinet has remained empty.

Australia begins its charge against minnows Indonesia in the first group game in Mumbai.

The line-ups are IN!

And it looks like Tony Gustavsson isn't taking any chances against their minnow opponents, either.

He's chosen what appears to be one of his strongest-possible starting XI squads, most of whom were regular starters at the Tokyo Olympics.

Captain Sam Kerr leads the line while Alanna Kennedy anchors the defence on the occasion of her birthday!

There is, however, a surprising inclusion: Clare Wheeler starts in midfield ahead of the recalled veteran Aivi Luik!

On Indonesia's side, it appears there are two players with the same exact name, which could be interesting for tonight's match commentators...

What do we think of the Matildas' starting squad? Anyone unlucky not to get the nod?

Look, to be fair and respectful to Indonesia, I hope we don't see a blow-out score-line...

But if we take a look at the global context of these two teams: Australia is currently ranked 11th in the world, 83 places above tonight's opponents.

This is their first appearance in the Asian Cup for over three decades.

So, um, I don't love their chances.

Hey, Natty! Great to see you back on the blog! I'll throw this question to you as well as everyone watching: what are you hoping for tonight? Score predictions? A certain style of play? Keeping a [gulp] clean sheet?

Comment with your thoughts and/or vibes!
