Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has admitted that scoring goals were his 'weak point' before Thomas Tuchel came in midway through last season.

Kovacic, 27, has collated a total of 7 goal contributions so far this season in the Premier League which is a vast improvement on previous returns in recent years for the Blues and Real Madrid respectively.

Alongside his early season strike against Aston Villa at home in the Premier League, his wonder strike against Liverpool to ignite the 2-2 comeback on the day unsurprisingly won the Premier League Goal of the Month award.

"I think it is my best goal as it was quite difficult, because as I said the ball was high in the air and it was a difficult shot. Also because it was a very important game against Liverpool in the Premier League, because we were 2-0 down and this goal gave us the boost to come back. So I would put it as the best goal in my career," he said after winning the award to the Chelsea website.

With the mini break now giving the former Real Madrid man the time to recharge his batteries, there is certainly some expectation now that more goal contributions, maybe not as glamorous as the Liverpool half volley, are to follow in suit with Plymouth Argyle next up in the FA Cup this weekend.
