Massimo Luongo reveals Sheffield Wednesday players' contract talks and frustrations

Massimo Luongo has claimed that a few Sheffield Wednesday players have begun talks over new contracts with just a few months until their deals are due to expire.

The Owls midfielder is one of those who will be out of contract in the summer if he does not extend his stay at Hillsborough.

In the last couple of months, he has done his hopes of being offered a new deal no harm at all as he has been one of the stand-out performers in Darren Moore’s side.

He is not the only player considering his future in the short term as Callum Paterson, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Joe Wildsmith are all also out of contract at the end of the season.

Speaking to FTBL in his native Australia, Luongo explained the situation regarding a potential new deal.

“The chairman runs everything contract-wise,” he claimed. "A few players have started contract talks in the past month because they want to know what they’re doing next season.

“I’ve asked the question but they’re still in limbo with it all. There’s me and a few others in the same situation. I’m at a good age - I’m playing and playing well. I’m not worried because I could definitely go somewhere else. But it would be nice to stay at a club where you’re comfortable and where you still have ambitions.

“But right now I don’t know what’s going on with my future. I’m just trying to enjoy and get the most out of every game.”

Despite being seemingly unaware of where his future lies in the next few months, Luongo has been doing everything he can to aid Wednesday’s promotion push recently.

A potential return to his national team is also at the forefront of his thinking in a year that ends with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
