Mason Mount told it's 'unfair' with Manchester United star set for awkward talks

Mason Mount has been warned he's going to be unfairly treated in the coming weeks at Manchester United.

In the absence of the injured Rasmus Hojlund, Mount started United's 1-0 victory against Fulham on Friday. But he struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford again, being replaced by goalscorer Joshua Zirkzee on the hour mark after spurning a glorious chance from close range.

Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott can't see a long-term future in the side for the 25-year-old because of Bruno Fernandes. He joined Rio Ferdinand on his podcast Rio Presents, with the United legend asking him if Erik ten Hag can get the best out of them both playing together.

Lescott replied: "In that team, I think it's hard - it's impossible. When he was going there, there was speculation about Liverpool. I was nervous because I think he would've suited him that a lot more - the pressing, the energy he brings. At United, he's similar to Bruno in terms of - not the way he plays, but the position he plays.

"Now it's going to be unfair to him because he's playing out of position, but when the striker comes back, he'll be the one that's sacrificed. It won't be like 'oh now you go and play in your best position and let's see'. It will be like 'you've done us a job, cheers, now come and sit next to me'."

Ferdinand was also joined by Jody Morris, who worked closely with Mount when assistant manager to Frank Lampard at Chelsea. Morris feels he's best suited in the No.8 position compared to Fernandes' favoured No.10 role.
