Mason Mount has chance to prove Lionel Messi right at Manchester United

Manchester United look to be edging closer to their first summer signing.

MEN Sport understands Chelsea's Mason Mount has reached an agreement with the Reds over personal terms. His father Tony and agent Neil Fewings are believed to have held advanced discussions with the attacking midfielder but a fee has not yet been reached on a fee between the two clubs.

Mount is wanting to leave Stamford Bridge this summer despite their appointment of Mauricio Pochettino this week. Despite being 24, the former Derby County loanee, is a player who has been earmarked for greater things throughout his career.

He added: "Having watched him play he has the potential to be one of the best." Before the arrival of Erik ten Hag, it would have been questioned as to whether United was the right place for a young player to develop.

The disconnect between the fans and the club was at an all-time low with success on the field a million miles away. Fast forward 12 months and the Reds are heading into their second cup final of the season having already won the League Cup, Champions League football is in the bag and Ten Hag appears to have the full trust of the boardroom and supporters alike.

Of course there is still work to be done but Mount's eagerness to switch Chelsea for United shows the two clubs' standing. The Englishman clearly sees the Reds as a club on the up and this thinking should translate with other targets in the summer.
