Mason Mount could change the way Manchester United approach big games

It could be a busy day for Manchester United as they edge closer to officially announcing Mason Mount as their first signing of the summer.

United have agreed a deal to sign the midfielder from Chelsea for an initial £55million fee, with a further £5m due in add-ons, and he has already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with the option of a further year.

There has been a suggestion that Mount could even undergo his medical as early as today and be formally announced in the coming days, ahead of a possible debut against Leeds next week.

Mount will be the centre of attention when United face their bitter rivals in Oslo, and if indeed he does play, it will be interesting to see where exactly he fits into the side.

It is anticipated the 24-year-old will primarily be deployed in the same No.6 role as Christian Eriksen occupied last season, given his skillset both in and out of possession.

Mount is not only a fine passer of the ball with a keen eye for goal, but Ten Hag is particularly fond of his workrate off the ball and how impressive his pressing stats are. He looks an ideal fit for playing in a progressive role alongside Casemiro, with Mount set to be tasked with linking up defence and attack in the midfield.

That's not his only use, though. While he is best suited in a box-to-box role, he is also capable of playing as a more traditional attacking midfielder just behind a striker.

His combination of creative talent and enterprising energy could make him the ideal fit for that role at United, particularly in bigger matches when his side will have less of the ball than usual. Though
