Martin Lewis addresses fans calls for him to stand for election after Rishi Sunak sets date
Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis is best known for his insightful financial advice and tireless campaigning to help ask politicians the difficult questions the public need to know, about everything from the cost of living to benefit changes. Yet thanks to his celebrity status and widespread public support, his fans have been persistently calling on the financial journalist to run for office in the upcoming general election.
Yet despite the support from his fans online, Martin has quickly shut down any idea of political aspirations as he issued an update to his followers on social media about the chance of him running in the upcoming election. In a tongue in cheek post, the MSE wrote: “Many people have been asking me. In a further post, Martin elaborated further as he added a little more insight into the reasoning behind his decision as he explained:" I've always been political. Everything I do is political. I will always be political. Money is political. Financial justice is political. Advocating for consumers is political. Educating people financially is political. I just don't and never do party politics.”
This isn’t the first time fans have called upon Martin to stand for election, with the vote of confidence in his judgement having dated back for several years, yet each and every time the subject has arisen he has politely but firmly just down the rumours and continued to focus on what he does best - breaking down money advice into terms everyone can
