Martin Boyle makes Hibs 'point to prove' admission after dramatic Edinburgh derby equaliser

Martin Boyle admitted "he had a point to prove" after he scored a dramatic Edinburgh derby equaliser on his Hibs return.

Boyle returned to the Easter Road side on Friday after a six month spell with Al-Faisaly in Saudi Arabia. The Leith club had originally teased that the 29-year-old would be unveiled to supporters at half time of the clash with city rivals Hearts.

However he made a surprise appearance on Lee Johnson 's bench and came on to produce a spectular moment in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time to salvage a point for the Hibees. Asked to sum up the moment of firing the ball past Craig Gordon deep into injury time, Boyle told Sky Sports: "I can't really remember. I've lost my voice. Unbelievable feeling. I wanted to come back here and prove a point, show the fans what I can do again. Lucky I've come on and made an impact and yeah a great end to the game."

Hearts had took the lead through Lawrence Shankland after 22 minutes and looked pretty comfortable with their goal advantage until Boyle entered the fray after 62 minutes. And the Australia international confessed he hadn't even kicked a football in well over a month before today.

He added: "You could say sports science is out of the window with that. Last time I kicked a ball was 28th of June. The gaffer phoned me last night and said if I could manage and when he gave me the nod, I knew that the atmosphere and the adrenaline would get me through and thankfully it has. Back to running club on Monday!"
