Martial praises 'super humble' Cristiano Ronaldo but doesn't name him as best Man United teammate

Anthony Martial has heaped praise on Cristiano Ronaldo but has instead named Wayne Rooney as the best footballer he has ever played alongside.

Martial has had plenty of attacking partners since he joined United from Monaco in 2015 but few have achieved as much as Ronaldo during their careers. The six-time Ballon d'Or winner returned to Old Trafford last year and despite wanting to leave the club this past summer will remain at the club for another season.

That will give Martial more opportunities to play alongside Ronaldo as the duo rarely linked up last season with the Frenchman on the periphery of the team before heading out on an unsuccessful loan spell at Sevilla. The Frenchman was full of praise for his teammate and opened up about their relationship.

"He’s super humble – and what a hard worker!" he told France Football. "We often speak when we are at the gym in the morning before going to training and I would watch what he was doing. That’s only logical, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo!"

However, Martial has instead named United legend Rooney as his best-ever teammate, hefty praise from a man who has played alongside Kylian Mbappe for France. Martial played with Rooney in the United attack much more than he has with Ronaldo so far and he explained his reasoning for his pick.

He said: "We have spoken about being genuine and so I can speak about Wayne Rooney. He’s the best player I have played with. He’s always playing for the team, always at 100%, no fuss. A monster. And a model as a footballer."
