Marquez to play waiting game on Aragon MotoGP return

Former MotoGP king Marc Marquez is non-committal on his return to race action at Aragon after testing at Misano and will wait to see how his injured arm recovers this week.

The Repsol Honda man has been out of action for the business end of two years after a crash at Jerez. He has undergone mutiple operation on his upper arm but was able to ride in Italy on Tuesday and Wednesday. Marquez ended up the fastest Honda rider, which tells you something.

“It was a really successful test for me, especially because after such a long time away it was not easy yesterday. But today I started to feel the bike more and run at my pace, this allowed me to try some different components for Honda for the future,” said Marquez.

“The most important aspect was how the arm recovered between the two days and, ok I struggled at the end of today, but this is what the doctors and physios were expecting. Let’s see how the recovery in the next few days goes to understand what the next steps are.

“The plan is try to understand over these next two or three days how the arm reacts. Sometimes after a big effort you have two options: The pain is there and stays there. Or drops and just grow a lot the muscle.

“That’s what we need to understand. I think around Sunday or Monday I will understand if it makes sense to try in Aragon or be patient.”

“A race distance is a race distance and the intensity you ride with in a race weekend is not the same as a test. Here I was able to relax in the box, a race weekend is completely different.

“But the best way to grow the muscles and to get the confidence again is to be on the bike. So as soon as I feel ready, I will race…”
