Marlies captain Clune retires, will join Leafs staff

Toronto Marlies captain Rich Clune announced his retirement from professional hockey on Thursday. 

In the next step of his career, the 35-year-old will be joining the Toronto Maple Leafs player development staff. 

Toronto Marlies Captain Rich Clune has announced his retirement from professional hockey after 16 seasons. He will be joining the @MapleLeafs player development staff.

Clune, joined the Marlies in 2015 and had served as captain of the team since last May, had four goals and 12 points in 59 games last season. He won the Calder Cup with the team in 2018.

A third-round pick of the Dallas Stars in 2005, Clune appeared in 139 career NHL games with the Los Angeles Kings, Nashville Predators and Maple Leafs. He posted seven goals and 22 points in those games while amassing 327 penalty minutes.
