Faf du Plessis gets Johannesburg Super Kings captaincy for T20 League

Former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis will don the colours of the Johannesburg Super Kings as skipper in Cricket South Africa's T20 league which begins next year.

He is part of a string of players who will play for the team, including Moeen Ali (England), Maheesh Theekshana (Sri Lanka), Romario Shepherd (West Indies) and Gerald Coetzee (South Africa).

The team from Johannesburg is owned by Chennai Super Kings Sports Limited, the owners of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Joining the Chennai Super Kings' assembly for the league is former mentor Stephen Fleming who takes on the head coach role, while South Africans Eric Simons and compatriot Albie Morkel will be part of the coaching staff.

The six franchises will have a squad of 17 players, and will be able to pre-sign up to five players made up of three international players, one Proteas player and one uncapped South African player prior to the auction.
