Mark Williams becomes latest snooker star to sign up for Ultimate Pool

Mark Williams is set to compete in Ultimate Pool, and not just a one-off event, but the three-time world champion has signed up as a professional and will play when the snooker schedule allows.

Mark Selby and Mark Allen have both played in Ultimate Pool in recent weeks, with some of the biggest names in snooker taking to the smaller table while the calendar in their chosen sport is quiet.

Williams will make his debut with the promotion in the Pairs Cup, playing alongside Carl Morrs – the 1998 WEPF World 8-Ball Pool champion – and they will take on Adam Bassoo & Dave Fernandez, Lakesh Badhan & Ben Flack and Andy Blurton & Neil Raybone.

The three-time world champion will be hoping to come through that group and join Selby in the last 16 where he awaits with partner Gareth Potts.

The 47-year-old said: ‘I’m really looking forward to giving the Ultimate Pool circuit a go. I have been playing a lot of 8-ball pool recently and it has been fun.

‘Ultimate Pool looks exciting to get involved with and I’ve been impressed with the events and high standard on show. It’s going to be very difficult for me, but I will enjoy the challenge!’

Pool star, and former snooker professional, Chris Melling is expecting to be impressed by the Welshman, tweeting: ‘MJW is gonna take some scalps.’

Ultimate Pool confirm of their new arrival: ‘As well as several other major Ultimate Pool ranked events that he would be eligible to enter, Williams will be part of an 88-player professional roster for the ten-event Pro Series next year.’

They also tease: ‘More professional wildcards for the 2023 season will be announced in the coming weeks.’
