Mark Warburton sends strong message to any QPR critics after recent defeats
Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Warburton has called for calm after his side suffered back-to-back defeats in the Championship.
The R’s followed up a hugely disappointing 1-0 setback at Barnsley over the weekend with a 2-0 loss against Millwall at The Den last night. Therefore, they have lost ground in the race for a top two finish and will be looking over their shoulder at the play-off chasing pack.
These recent defeats have had some fans asking questions about decisions made by the boss, but Warburton sent a strong message to any critics when speaking to West London Sport after the game against the Lions.
“They got 17 points out of 21, and suddenly after two games I’m being told ‘are you going to make changes?’ Come on, in what world are we living.
“They’ve got us to where we are now, their efforts, their work effort, their application has got us into fourth. Just calm down and keep playing football, they’re a good team, they haven’t become a bad set of players overnight.”
QPR are back in action at home to Hull City this weekend.
The verdict
You can understand Warburton’s point here because there is a tendency to overreact in football generally now.
Of course, all connected to QPR will be disappointed with how the last two games have gone and the performances as much as the results will have concerned the manager.
But, as Warburton says, this is the Championship and it’s hard to maintain the same high levels all the time. Ultimately, this team have shown after 31 games that they have a lot of quality and it’s about bouncing back in front of their own fans against Hull on Saturday.
