Mark Warburton identifies key area for QPR to strengthen before the transfer deadline
Queens Park Rangers’ assault on the automatic promotion places was halted by a goalless draw at home to Swansea City on Tuesday evening.
Chris Willock picked up a minor knee injury in the game but is expected to be fit to feature against Reading at the weekend.
Morocco advanced to the quarter final stage of the Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday evening as well, which means the West Londoners will have to wait a bit longer for Ilias Chair to return to the side.
Warburton explained where he wants to strengthen in the remaining days of the transfer window when he spoke to West London Sport.
He said: “I’m not ignoring it – we know we need attacking options.
“When you make a substitution you want to change it to change the dynamic and tempo of a game.
“We are targeting players.
“We know what we want and who we want to bring in.
“Who we want and getting it done are two entirely different things.
“I hope very much in the next two or three days that we see some movement.”
Goalkeeper Seny Dieng is also out in Cameroon with the Senegal national team with David Marshall filling in between the sticks.
It will be interesting to see who QPR do bring in before Monday’s deadline, with the view of keeping them in touching distance of the automatic promotion places.
The Verdict
It is no surprise to see QPR missing a player of Chair’s quality, there are not many Championship sides who would not, however if Willock’s injury turns out to be more serious than it currently appears then serious problems may arise.
The play-off pack are incredibly evenly matched and the chasing one seems to be growing in strength and size by the week.
Bournemouth’s faltering in recent weeks has given every side in the top six a bit more belief and motivation but
