Mark Lawrenson agrees with Michael Owen in Newcastle United vs Leicester City prediction

It’s back to Premier League action for Leicester City this weekend after the highs of European action.

After returning from Eindhoven, City travel up to St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon to take on a resurgent Newcastle United. The game comes just three days after City made it to the Europa Conference League semi-final thanks to a 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven.

The result means that City go into the game against Newcastle full of confidence. Brendan Rodgers' side also recorded a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in their last league outing as they look to continue to push for a late run for the European places.

City are not the only team in good form though, with Newcastle getting back to winning ways last week. The Magpies recorded a 1-0 win over Wolves last Friday and have had over a week to prepare for the visit of Leicester.

Ahead of the game, Premier League pundit Mark Lawrenson has given his thoughts on the match. He is anticipating a close game in the North East.

“I was getting a bit worried about Newcastle last week because their form had slumped, but they improved against Wolves and got the win as well,” he told BBC Sport .

“Before then, the Magpies had lost three in a row but all three of those defeats were away from home and I'd expect them to be better at St James' Park. I'm backing them here too, although Leicester are so up and down it makes predicting their results very difficult.”

Former Premier League striker Michael Owen is in agreement with his fellow pundit. The former Newcastle man is backing his former club to record a narrow victory.
