Mark Allen defeated by Wu Yize at German Masters
Mark Allen is out of the Machineseeker German Masters after a 5-4 defeat to Wu Yize in Berlin, despite leading 4-2 earlier in the match.
Allen had demonstrated his battling qualities throughout the encounter, coming from 56 points down in the first frame to take an early lead.
He followed that up by clawing back a 44-point deficit in the next.
Wu claimed the third frame despite Allen's half-century with the Chinese player following it up with a 72.
The Antrim man moved 4-2 ahead after the interval, but that brought the best out of Wu, eventually forcing a deciding frame with a magnificent 133.
Wu sealed the win in a low-scoring ninth frame to book a place in the third round.
World number one Judd Trump thrashed Joe O'Connor 5-0 to progress.
Trump made breaks of 77, 76, 75, 80 and 100 in a ruthless performance, with O'Connor restricted to a total of 75 points in a one-sided contest.
Switzerland's Alexander Ursenbacher also did not drop a frame as he whitewashed Ali Carter, while world champion Kyren Wilson fought back from 2-0 down to beat Zhou Yuelong 5-3.
Zhou took the first two frames with breaks of 130 and 67 and another half-century edged him 3-2 in front after Wilson had got back on level terms.
However, Wilson reeled off the last three frames in a row with the aid of breaks of 72 and 100 to book his place in the next round.
World Championship runner-up Jak Jones also came from 2-0 down to beat John Higgins 5-3.
Aaron Hill is in the second round action tonight as he faces Jimmy Robertson.
