Marina Alex claims second title as Stephanie Meadow falls back

Marina Alex collected her second LPGA Tour victory at the Palos Verdes Championship as Stephanie Meadow enduring a frustrating final round.

American Alex finished on 10-under-par, one stroke ahead of Jin Young Ko. A birdie on the par-five 16th gave Alex the advantage coming in and two pars saw her add to the Cambia Portland Classic title she won back in 2018.

"I wasn't sure if this would ever happen again if I'm being perfectly honest. It's been tough," the 31-year-old said.

"We're all getting older. I'm getting older. There are so many amazing players out here. The competition is really, really difficult."

Having hauled herself into contention and starting just four shots back of the lead, Meadow recorded a frustrating 73 to finish on two-under-par, eight shots off the winner.

After opening with three birdies, Meadow's next six holes contained two birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey on the ninth to end her chances. Coming in, she finished with nine straight pars.

Anna Davis, the 16-year-old Augusta National Women's Amateur winner, closed with a 76 to finish 70th in her first LPGA Tour start having received a sponsor exemption.

Leona Maguire failed to make the cut after consecutive rounds of 74 on Thursday and Friday.
