Marielle Thompson wins bronze at World Cup ski cross event in Italy

Canada's Marielle Thompson is building some momentum as the Milano-Cortina Olympics approach.

The 33-year-old ski cross athlete won a bronze medal on Friday at a World Cup stop in Val di Fassa, Italy, her second podium appearance in as many events.

Thompson, the 2014 Olympic champion, was joined on the podium on Friday by gold medallist Jole Galli of Italy and Marielle Berger Sabbatel of France, who took silver.

The Whistler, B.C., native also won a bronze medal in Veysonnaz, Switzerland last week. That marked her first medal of the season as she continues her return to form after suffering a torn knee ligament at the tail end of last season.

Canada's Thompson collects another World Cup ski cross medal, this time in Val di Fassa

Thompson's latest podium appearance comes just days after she was revealed as one of Canada's flag bearers for the opening cermeony of the Milano-Cortina Olympic Games.

There is one final World Cup event on Saturday before the Winter Games begin next week. The Val di Fassa event will stream live on CBCSports.ca and on CBC Gem beginning on Saturday at 6:30 a.m. ET.

Marielle Thompson is headed to her 4th Olympic Games
