Margate sign FA Cup leading goalscorer Elliott Duncan from Crowborough, while Stanley Oldfield and Richie Hamill impress on league debuts
Margate have added to their attacking options by signing the leading scorer in this season’s FA Cup.
Former Lordswood striker Elliott Duncan has joined the Blues after scoring eight FA Cup goals for Crowborough this season.
The Crows’ run ended when they lost 2-1 to Wimborne in the third qualifying round on Saturday and Duncan has now made the move to Hartsdown Park.
He’s similar to teenager Stanley Oldfield, who impressed on his debut after joining on a 28-day loan from Chatham, as Margate won 3-2 at Peacehaven & Telscombe last weekend.
Duncan came to the attention of Gate manager Jamie Coyle and assistant boss Matt Longhurst when he played against their Whitstable side for Lordswood in Southern Counties East.
“He’s got eight goals in the FA Cup this season - he’s the leading scorer,” said Longhurst.
“Again, he’s another young forward.
“Obviously, Stan’s not guaranteed to be here past the 28 days, so we’re looking longer term.
“He’s similar to Stan, probably not quite as physical, although he’s a similar stature, and he can play on the left, the right and through the middle.
“We played against him a couple of years ago, when he was at Lordswood, and Coyley marked him and found him quite a handful, so we’ve always kept tabs on him.
“Seeing his goalscoring exploits in the FA Cup, we felt we still needed that type of forward because we like to play with the big frontmen, whether that’s in a two or a three, and we didn’t quite get the right mould in the summer.
“But, now, having Hassan Nalbant, Stanley Oldfield, Javaun Splatt, Johan Caney-Bryan and Elliott Duncan, there’s five there that are all big, strong, powerful boys.”
Oldfield set up the decisive third goal for Ryan Huke in Margate’s weekend win.
He’s highly thought
