Margate manager Jamie Coyle describes pre-season as most disrupted he has ever been involved in ahead of pre-season friendly trip to Corinthian this weekend

Manager Jamie Coyle has described Margate’s pre-season as one of the most disrupted he has ever been involved in.

Gate continued preparations for the new Isthmian South East campaign with last weekend’s 2-1 victory at Isthmian Premier Chatham Town.

While it has been a hectic summer for Coyle and No.2 Matt Longhurst since they moved to Hartsdown Park from rivals Whitstable in May, they have been unable to really put their new-look team together.

David Adewoju has only just arrived in the UK from the United States while fellow defender Finn O’Mara has been unwell.

Coyle said: “It’s been one of the most disrupted pre-seasons I have ever been involved in.

“We have signed David but his season, with the play-offs going on in America, got extended. He arrived in the country on Monday and won’t be available until this weekend (when they visit Corinthian).

“Finn O’Mara has been really ill so he’s not kicked a football in pre-season. Obviously, we know what he’s capable of.

“There’s been weddings and honeymoons. It’s been really disjointed.

“We haven’t been able to put together our full-strength side in any of the games. It’s been frustrating but it was really pleasing to see how we performed against one of the favourites in Step 3 where half of them are full-time.

“It was good but we want to get our best team available so we can establish relationships.”

Coyle is hopeful of getting a full-strength squad out in the coming days, albeit unavailability has helped to find out how his side can adapt.

“That’s definitely a positive,” he admitted. “Ronald [Sithole] and TT [Walters] played out of position on Saturday - and they probably were our stand-out players.

“We’re going to need that versatility, and Ronald and TT showed that.
