Marcus Rashford to Barcelona transfer twist as Manchester United exit plan clear

The future of Marcus Rashford remains uncertain, but Manchester United are reportedly unwilling to let him leave on loan amid interest from Barcelona.

The 27-year-old has been heading towards the exit door at United since December, when he was dropped for the Manchester derby. Following that decision, Rashford joined Aston Villa on a short-term loan.

He contributed to four goals and six assists in 17 matches for Villa, before his stint was cut short as he picked up a season-ending injury. Villa do have the option to make his move a permanent one for £40million - but after failing to qualify for the Champions League a switch to the West Midlands looks unlikely.

This allows the England star to consider other opportunities, with Barcelona reportedly being his "dream" move. Sporting director Deco mentioned last week that the club hold an interest in both Rashford and Liverpool's Luis Diaz, as the Catalan giants attempt to strengthen.

It's been reported that Rashford's brother, Dwaine Maynard, held talks with Deco at a hotel in the city. However, Spanish publication Sport has claimed that Barca are not willing to meet United's asking price and would instead be interested in a loan deal.

But United are said to be "refusing to negotiate anything other than a permanent transfer." If nothing changes by the final stages of the summer transfer window - after all other options have been explored - the report suggests that United would likely agree to a loan deal at that point.

Barca are though to be exploring the possibility of a paid loan that includes an option-to-buy next year. Rashford, who reportedly earns £350,000 a week, is also willing to take a pay cut.
