Marcus Rashford reveals what Erik ten Hag did after Manchester United's heavy defeat to Liverpool

Erik ten Hag would dissect what Manchester United did wrong after their biggest defeats last season and he would give the players confidence they could bounce back at the next opportunity, according to Marcus Rashford.

Ten Hag enjoyed an excellent first year at Old Trafford and United are finally heading in the right direction again. The club's trophy drought was ended with victory in the Carabao Cup and Champions League football has been secured.

The Dutchman has been responsible for raising standards at Carrington and the players have responded to his approach.

Although progress was made last season, there were still bumps in the road and a few heavy, shock defeats were suffered, like against Manchester City at the Etihad, versus Liverpool at Anfield and against Sevilla away from home.

Those performances were concerning, but the team managed to bounce back immediately after each of those defeats and Rashford thinks the manager's excellent 'understanding' of his squad was a factor in that.

In a candid interview with Sky Bet's The Overlap that was released on Thursday morning, Rashford gave a rare insight into working with Ten Hag and he praised the manager's winning mentality and his desire to win trophies.

"I've enjoyed working under the different managers because I feel like I've been able to take a little bit from each and it's helped me mature quickly, especially in the early stages, and helped my game develop," he said.

"They've each helped me shape my game to where it is now and hopefully we do get stability now and we can go on a challenge and win the biggest trophies. When he [Ten Hag] came in, I didn't hear him speaking about getting top four once.
