Marcus Rashford reveals Manchester United's dressing room mood at half-time vs Liverpool

Marcus Rashford has revealed Manchester United's players were confident a comeback against Liverpool was possible at half-time at Anfield on Sunday.

Cody Gakpo scored a goal late in the first half to open the scoring against United at the weekend, which meant Erik ten Hag's side trailed 1-0 at the break, but Darwin Nunez scored almost immediately after play resumed for the second half.

A dramatic capitulation followed that Nunez strike in the 47th minute and United conceded another five goals to suffer a 7-0 defeat - the joint-heaviest loss in their history.

Rashford reflected on the disastrous performance at a press conference at Carrington on Wednesday and he admitted the dressing room thought a second-half comeback at Anfield was possible, before the onslaught that followed.

"Just touching on the Liverpool game, Liverpool versus United is a unique game, it doesn't matter about form, individual form, it's a special game of football that is just decided in 90 minutes on the pitch," Rashford said.

"Going in at half-time, it could have been a different game. I missed a chance from Luke's [Shaw] pass to make it 1-0. We had two or three other opportunities and we probably should have gone into half-time leading but we weren't.

"We were down 1-0 and that wasn't a bad position, we felt we could have created chances in the second half, but it's Liverpool, they can take the game away from you and that's what happened and it's about resetting now. That's all we can do, there's no point dwelling on what happened because we can't change it."

Rashford was also asked about his improvement this season and he spoke of the importance of his summer preparation.
