Marcus Rashford opens up on improvement under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United

If Manchester United's start under new manager Erik ten Hag has been encouraging rather than exceptional, then the turnaround in form and fortunes of Marcus Rashford is one of the biggest success stories.

United have won six and lost four of Ten Hag's first 10 games in charge, but with five goals Rashford is the club's top scorer and was named Premier League player of the month for September.

Ten Hag won the manager honour for that month after four successive league wins, but his reign has also included a 4-0 defeat to Brentford and a 6-3 loss to Manchester City.

The Dutchman's ability to coax performances out of individual players has been on show, however, with the return to form of Rashford and Anthony Martial undoubted positives.

Rashford looked devoid of confidence for most of last season but his swagger has returned under Ten Hag and the 24-year-old has detailed the manager's style of play and his ability to give players clear instructions as two of his biggest strengths.

"He’s got a very clear identity and a way of play. I think it makes it easier to adapt to him. I felt this in pre-season to be fair, he got his messages across quickly and direct and the players took those messages on board," Rashford said.

"We are going to keep improving under him, it is still early days, the more we get to know him, the better we will become and the more he gets to know us as well. I am just looking forward to playing under him and winning games."

Rashford has five goals in eight appearances this season, having scored five in 32 games in the entirety of last season.
