Marcus Rashford made two huge summer decisions and Manchester United are benefitting

"That is vintage Marcus Rashford," said the commentator after his first goal against Barnsley.

Rashford's touch to bring down Alejandro Garnacho's long-range pass was exquisite and the powerful finish was exceptional - it was the Rashford of the 2022/23 season.

Nobody will get carried away after Manchester United's hammering of Barnsley in the third round of the Carabao Cup, but it was an uplifting night at Old Trafford and a welcomed result.

United don't win comfortably with Erik ten Hag in charge and it represented the biggest victory of his tenure. Despite the standard of opposition, it carried significance for that reason and it also provided an opportunity for players who needed goals to find the back of the net.

Rashford scored his first goal of the season against Southampton at the weekend and notched another two against Barnsley, meaning he's now up and running for the campaign.

Barnsley are currently seventh in England's third division and couldn't cope with United, but Rashford looked sharp, dangerous and like his former self throughout the game, delivering the type of performance that supporters want to see from him every week in the Premier League.

Rashford had to bounce back this term after a disappointing 12 months in which his relationship with fans became strained and his off-field behaviour became an issue for Ten Hag.

It felt like this season would have to be Rashford's last at his boyhood club if he continued to underperform, however, he's enjoyed an excellent few days and looks to have confidence flowing through his veins, which seems to be the key to him giving the best
